We are all just sailors.

As these gnarled roots wrap themselves around my weary heart I know I’m finally home. And even though I’ve made my fair share of mistakes and the future is unclear I’m content with the fact that life goes on. So with these outstretched branches I’ll reach up to feel the warmth of the rising sun and I’ll keep pushing forward till the day this life is done. Till every last breath has been pushed from these small lungs till every last song has been sung. I’ll keep pushing forward because life goes on.
Allow me to introduce myself; I sing songs for strangers.
For years I’ve pondered this existence,
I’ve wondered why I’m here.
I’ve guessed and guessed and always missed
But I’ve come to terms my dear.
You’ve gotta live life with your head held high
And always face your fears.
Well this life is just one big sailing expedition. We’ve gotta open up our sails and brave the vicious currents of life. Cause we’re all just searching for that far away coast. Whether it be diamonds or gold. It possesses all of the treasures we’ve ever dreamed of. And as for me? Well as for me, I hope to find nothing but all my loved ones there. Cause if not for all my family and friends, I’d be just another shipwreck at the bottom of the sea. To be washed up on foreign soils and burned for firewood, the smoke curling up to the sky. So God, carry me to that distant shore line and make me whole. Wherever I may end up along this voyage, I’ll always remember; life goes on.

North of Nowhere

I once was a pirate, in a land far away. Chasing
legends of gold to the end of the day
But one day I found a man, drifting at sea. He said
“Sonny there’s more to life, just listen to me.
Have you ever found yourself, looking out
to the ocean, o’er the horizon
settled down with a wife and kids?
Trust me, there’s more to life; take heed to this.
I sailed the seven seas with this thought in mind.
Nonetheless I couldn’t leave all this behind.
My ship and my men, the gold and the breeze
Were something I couldn’t leave out here at sea.
But one day we landed on an island unknown
“Here, X marks the spot!” just as the map had shown.
“Captain there’s nothing….wait what do I see?”
They picked up a note and they read it to me; it said:
Have you ever found yourself, looking out
to the ocean, o’er the horizon
settling down with a wife and kids?
Trust me, there’s more to life; take heed to this
“All hands on deck!” I screamed to my men.
“North! We are bound for a port where we’ll land.
I’ve realized there’s more to life than sailing the seas;
A wife and children are waiting for me.”
Have you ever found yourself, looking out
to the ocean, o’er the horizon,
settled down with a wife and kids?
Trust me, there’s more to life; take heed to this.
So I found myself looking out
to the ocean and o’er the horizon,
sitting down for a nice cup of tea;
there with a family to share it with me.
